HOUGHTON – The Holiday Inn Express, Houghton, will undergo a $1.55 million expansion and renovation after receiving approval from the Houghton Planning Commission on November 29.
The work will include the addition of 16 guest rooms and an expanded fitness center, adding just under 6,000 square feet to the hotel. The project also entails the renovation of the existing 61 guest rooms.
“The expansion is a welcome addition to the property,” said Veridea President Bob Mahaney. “We strive to exceed our guests’ expectations, and the renovation will provide us with the opportunity to do so.”
Representatives from Marquette real estate developer, Veridea Group, which has owned and operated the property since 2012, said the expansion and renovation are part of their standard operating procedure.
“Veridea strives to operate hotels that are ‘like-new’ and at the top of their respective markets for product quality,” said Mahaney. “Additionally, we have enjoyed great success in Houghton and we want to be able to continue to provide the best lodging experience for our guests.”
Tom Hall Contracting of Munising will be the general contractor on the project, with Advantage Architecture of Duluth, MN, handling the design. The renovation is expected to take six months to complete. The hotel will remain operational during construction.
